Suzanne’s Story – Gastric Bypass

I had gotten sick. I got COPD and emphysema and was taking Prednisone. The Prednisone, of course, made me gain weight, and I got huge. The bigger I got, the less I could breathe, and I virtually could do nothing. I couldn’t go to Wal-Mart. I couldn’t play with my grandchildren. The main thing I wanted to do is play with my children. I just knew that there was a way and I had to get this weight off. I tried Weight Watchers which just wasn’t working. I decided to talk to my physician, and he contacted Dr. Malladi for me and within a week, I was on her schedule. Dr. Malladi helped me make my decision. We talked about the difference in the sleeve and the gastric bypass. I had looked online, and I had pretty much decided that the gastric bypass would probably be my best solution. She agreed with me that gastric bypass would be good. She was very pleasant and very informative and let you know just exactly what you were going to be up against. She’s just great and keeps her finger on every little detail. She just wants to make sure that everything is just right.

It has been one year and a month since my surgery. I’m doing great. From my highest weight, I have lost 92 pounds, and I feel great. I can crawl on the floor with my grandkids. I can run with my grandkids. Before, I couldn’t even hardly carry my grandkids, and they were little bitty at that time. Now, I’ve got a set twins that I can carry one on each hip which I couldn’t before, many things that I couldn’t do before. I couldn’t go into Wal-Mart and do my Wal-Mart shopping without getting out of breath because of my COPD and emphysema. It’s almost like I don’t have COPD and emphysema anymore and it’s just wonderful.
