Bryan’s Story – Gastric Sleeve Patient

I’ve always been a big guy. From early childhood, I’ve been always the overweight kid, just never ate the way I was supposed to eat. I grew up in a family of big people. My mother was overweight. My grandparents were overweight. A lot of my family is overweight. I just kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger. I said to myself, I have to make a change. I have two children and I needed to be there for my kids because my mom passed away at 46. I know the pain every day that I go through not having my mom and so I was like, I’m not putting my kids through that.

Starting this whole process in my head, it was like, okay, I’ve tried to eat right, I’ve tried to exercise, and it still didn’t work. So, I made the appointment. As soon as you walk in here you are welcomed. Then, you meet with the staff in the back. They ask you all of your goals and everything. Then, you meet with the doctor and she was like what do you want out of this surgery, what is your overall goal, and I told her I want to lose 200 pounds.

Sixteen months ago I had the gastric sleeve surgery. I am currently down 220 pounds. It’s life changing. I went from being a size 58 in pants to now I’m in a size 34 pants. Dr. Malladi was great. Her staff is great. They are always here to help you. Every time you come in the office, it is like a big family. It is a good feeling to be able to go to movie theaters and actually fit in the seat or go to sporting events. I am a season ticket holder for the Kansas City Chiefs and to sit in a seat and not hang over, or this year, I took a flight to Florida for the first time in 20 years. It’s because I’m this small, and I’m not embarrassed about “oh well you’ve got to buy two seats because you weight so much”. It’s just, It’s wonderful. It was the best thing I could have ever done.
